LAZY DAYS, contemporary country style cooking
by Phillippa Cheifitz.
'I have every cookbook Phillippa has written.
They have pride of place next to the Jamies, Nigellas
and Gordon Ramsays, but when it comes to real cooking
I always go back to Phillippa.'
-Sumien Brink, Taste magazine
Quivertree Publications is proud to announce the release of Lazy Days, contemporary country-style cooking. The author of the bestselling Cape Town Food, Phillippa Cheifitz, takes us on a lazy meander up the West Coast to her beach house in Paternoster. At her weekend retreat, there's time to cook real food, the kind we all love and often don't have time for during busy weeks. These recipes are not difficult to make – this is honest, delicious food. They're relaxed and easy to follow, a contemporary take on simple country cooking, varying from mouthwatering slow-cooked casseroles and an indulgent baked warm pudding for the winter to the barbecues, seafood and homemade vanilla ice cream that suit the summer months.
"Phillippa at her best, simple home-cooking, full of tips to make life/cooking easier–more foolproof."
Phillippa Cheifitz is currently food editor of both Femina and House and Leisure magazines and consultant food editor of Taste magazine; she has also written seven well-loved cookbooks. She has won many awards but says that the best reward is the feedback from enthusiastic readers. The author and her husband spend week days in Cape Town and weekends in Paternoster. As often as possible they visit their son, daughter, son-in-law, grandson and granddaughter in New York.
Craig Frasers mouthwatering photography and scenics of seagulls soaring, people collecting mussels, and bokkoms drying in the sun, to name a few, takes us on a wonderfully vivid and delicious journey, giving us a taste of a lifestyle we all aspire to. Long walks on the beach, lazy lunches with friends and family and trips exploring the nearby countryside. Local delicacies are collected from farm stalls and farms and brought back to sample.
'There's plenty of crayfish in summer, mussels for the picking and oysters to be ordered from the nearby farm. Bunches of shimmering small fish, perfect for fish soup and freshly caught by local fishermen, may be bought at the side of the road.'
A stamp of approval, Quivertree was delighted to hear recently that Lazy Days has been chosen for the Exclusive Books, Publishers Choice 2006.
This is Quivertree's 2nd food book, the first being the award winning: Feast, by Franck Dangereux, which was proclaimed one of the three best chef books in the world in 2004, at the 10th Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Sweden.

Lazy Days is a gloriously erudite and wonderfully distracting culinary journey through the West Coast. Apart from the mouthwatering photography by Craig Frazer, the scenes of the West Coast, its people and life by the sea, makes the journey quite vivid.
As the author meanders through the little villages, stopping to meet the locals, to stock up on natural ingredients or produce from the area, she offers the West Coast to the traveller in a pleasant, sparkling and entertaining style.
The general layout and superb choice of colours are commendable. What better colours to use to portray freshness, honesty and the sea, than light blues and whites enhanced by splendid photography?
The overall feel and appearance is that of simplicity and style as reflected in the recipes. Simple country style cooking, from casseroles to puddings and naturally, sea food, prepared by someone obviously fond of cooking yet has limited time to indulge.
The casual notes throughout the book are useful, generous and personal. The recipes are simple, easy to make and the ingredients easily obtainable, yet the dishes seem delicious.
Lazy Days goes beyond cooking; it is also a travelogue of the West Coast and a portfolio of fine art.
